Jack McSweeney DRE#01027223 - RE/MAX Execs can help you apply for a loan.

For a lot of people, securing the loan can be one of the more distressing aspects of buying a home. But it doesn't have to be. I have close professional relationships with a lot of mortgage lenders in Redondo Beach, and they've helped me recognize a few things that make the loan application process very easy.

1 – Create a list of questions about your loan program

Be sure you have a list of questions with you if you do not perfectly grasp the ins and outs of the different loan programs. I or one of my lender contacts can assist you in understanding the advantages and disadvantages of both programs, because it can be hard to know the characteristics of fixed and adjustable rate mortgages.

2 – Determine when you want to lock

By locking in the rate, the lender is committing to the interest rates for the loan – commonly at the time the loan application is presented. By floating the rate, you can lock the rate anytime between the day you apply for the loan and the issuing of closing documents. Those who choose to float conclude that the interest rates will plunge in the near future. Click here to see the outlook for the next 90 days of interest rates.

3 – Decide if you want to pay additional points to decrease your rate

If you decide to pay additional points to lower the interest rate of your mortgage loan, you'll do so by paying for them in cash at closing. Every point is 1 percent of the loan. To decide if buying points is the best option for you, click here to use our points calculator.

4 – Compile your paperwork

Acquiring a loan requires a lot of paperwork, so you should take some time to get all your documentation together. Click here to get a feel for typical questions you'll have to answer on a loan app.
